After 15 years of top-level sport, top dutch swimmer Inge Dekker decided to end her active swimming career. After the Olympic Games in London in 2012, Dekker had already decided that Rio would be her final meet. The entire Olympic cycle was entirely devoted to winning a medal in Brazil. Then last February Cervical Cancer was found, Dekker thought her swimming career was prematurely ended. Now Dekker can say that the achievement of Rio 2016 was one of her greatest achievements in her career. Even though it was a sour fourth place, she was proud she was able to compete for the medals.
Dekker claims that participation in these games has been extremely special to her and that she never lost the pleasure in swimming yet she is ready for new challenges.
